It is with great pleasure that we present the first edition of our revamped auction catalogue of fine wines. Spink Fine Wines, a fully owned division of Spink, will bring the expertise and integrity that we are synonymous with in the world of collectables. Spink was founded over three hundred years ago, in 1666, almost a full century before the Prince de Conti paid 8,000 livres outbidding Madame de Pompadour, the mistress of Louis XV of France, for the Domaine Romanée-Conti. Sadly, DRC was not bought in a Spink auction, but we are always looking for new ideas, in terms of business strategy, client services and technology. Like the good vine Spink has deep roots and is not averse to a bit of flamboyance from time to time. Over the years travelling to Asia, where we have been holding auctions for several decades in Hong Kong and Singapore, I was often asked by our Asian based clients, “why don’t you start a wine business? It would fit so well in your portfolio, you know where there are a lot of rare wines, we trust you, and the vast majority of your customers are also wine lovers”. Finally we did it with the recent acquisition of Oeno China in Hong Kong, and this is the first fully rebranded edition of our new catalogue, under the direction of our two wine experts Anna Lee, Vice-Chairman, based in Hong Kong, and Guillaume Willk-Fabia, Director of our Fine Wines Department.
Estimates have been given for all lots in this auction. They are meant to reflect our idea of the current market value of the item given its scarcity and condition. Opening bids are usually the low estiamtes.
